A Case of Vitiligo

This week, let us see a noteworthy case of Vitiligo treated with Homoeopathy.

Brief History:
A 3-year-old boy came with the chief complaint of depigmented itchy spots on the scalp and forehead for the last 2 months. He had a history of taking allopathic medicines and applying ointments for the same.

Investigation Reports:
KOH test showed presence of fungal mycelium and the culture isolated was identified as Candida albicans.

Physical Generals:

• Tendency to catch cold easily
• Desires — eggs and salty things.
• Sleep — On abdomen
• Thirst — Increased

Mental Generals:

• Very timid
• Cowardice
• Indolent
• Obstinate
• Difficult Concentration
• Fear of ghosts, dark, animals and being alone
• Shouting during anger

Case solution:

The following rubrics were taken.

May 17, 2011:
Calcarea carb 30, 3 doses once was given followed by Placebo for 2 weeks. Photograph of affected area (forehead) was taken.

June 02, 2011:
Photograph was compared, lesion was stable. No new spots were seen. Calcarea carb 30, single dose was repeated followed by Placebo for 4 weeks.

July 04, 2011:
On comparison with photograph lesion was slightly better but a few tiny new spots were seen on face. Placebo was repeated for 4 weeks.

August 05, 2011:
Depigmented spots on scalp, forehead and face were better. Tiny new spots were seen on fingers since 1 month. Calcarea carb 30, single dose was repeated followed by Placebo for 4 weeks. Photograph of dorsum of hands was taken.

September 08, 2011:
Depigmented spots on forehead, face and dorsum of hands improved and no new spots were seen. Placebo was repeated for 4 weeks. Photograph of forehead taken.

October 11, 2011:
Depigmented spots were better. Placebo was repeated for 8 weeks.

December 20, 2011:
Depigmented spots on forehead and dorsum of hands much better. No new spots were seen. Placebo was repeated for 6 weeks. Photograph of dorsum of both hands taken.

February 05, 2012:
Depigmented spots on forehead and dorsum of hands much better. No new spots were seen. Placebo was repeated for 4 weeks. Photograph of forehead taken.

April 11, 2012:
Lesions much better. Placebo for 4 weeks was continued.

May 05, 2012:
Skin lesions almost subsided. Placebo was repeated for 8 weeks. Patient is still under follow – up.

This case demonstrates how even a difficult case like Vitiligo can be cured completely by Homoeopathy.
