Utility of Fever Chapter in BBCR (The Boger-Boenninghausen)

Let us take an example of the Fever Chapter from BBCR. Every homeopath practices differently, some giving importance to the mental and general symptoms, while there are some who prescribe largely on physical symptoms and modalities. And the beauty of Homeopathy is that both practices deliver the best results when selected scientifically and through thorough analysis.

However, not all cases have marked mental and general symptoms and these cases do need a practical and sensible approach. Repertories like BBCR come to the rescue in such cases. The Boger-Boenninghausen (BBCR) is most helpful when the mental symptoms are not marked, or the patient is unable to say very much about their emotions and intellect, desires, or aversions (which actually reflect the core personality of the individual).

Additionally, acute cases have to be dealt with within minutes, and knowing a person’s psyche may not be necessary always. It’s always the presenting totality that matters in most acute cases.

The fever chapter in BBCR is absolutely practical and result-oriented. Its main sub-types are as follows:

  • FEVER
    Pathological Types

    Blood
    Circulation
    Congestions
    Palpitation
    Time
    Heart Beat
    Pulse
    Time
    Aggravation

  • CHILL
    • Partial chill
    • Coldness
    • Partial coldness
    • Shivering
    • Time
    • Aggravation
    • Amelioration
    • Concomitants: Mind-Sleep
  • HEAT AND FEVER IN GENERAL
    • Partial heat
    • Time
    • Aggravation
    • Amelioration
    • Concomitants, Mind-sleep
  • SWEAT
    • Partial
    • Time
    • Aggravation
    • Amelioration
    • Concomitants, Mind-Sleep
  • COMPOUND FEVERS
    • Beginning with chill
    • Beginning with shivering
    • Beginning with heat
    • Beginning with sweat

This is a very easy and practical approach to the selection of rubrics.

APPLICATION OF FEVER TOTALITY

PATHOLOGICAL TYPES: This section includes various types of fevers such as Bilious, Gastric, Rheumatic, Traumatic, Typhoid, Yellow fever, etc. It is of great help when used for reference purpose during the final selection of the remedy

In cases when there are no characteristic symptoms, repertorization can be done using diagnostic or clinical rubrics. It also has a rubric ‘Intermittent and periodicity in general’ under which many periodicities are given.

BLOOD: This section includes various types and characters of blood. It is useful in any hemorrhagic conditions where the blood has any of these characteristic features.

CIRCULATION: This includes rubrics related to blood circulation, and also various conditions related to blood vessels. This is applicable in conditions like Aneurysms, Varicose veins, and Phlebitis.

CONGESTIONS: This has rubrics for the accumulation and rush of blood. These are useful in cases where patients have the subjective sensation of the rush of blood to certain parts of the body.

PALPITATION: There are rubrics related to palpitations, some causative factors for palpitation, and some complaints associated with palpitation.

HEARTBEAT: In this section, different rubrics related to heartbeat have been given. This section is applicable in many cardiac diseases where there is change or alteration in the heartbeat e.g.: Arrhythmia, Tachycardia, Atrial fibrillation, etc.

PULSE: Different types, characters, and alterations in pulse are given in this section. Applicable in conditions with abnormal pulse findings such as tachycardia, atrial flutter, hyperthyroidism, etc.

CHILL: Applicable in cases of fever where the chill stage is predominant and has concomitants.

HEAT AND FEVER IN GENERAL: Applicable in fevers with a prominent heat stage and also a sensation of heat in certain specific parts of the body.

SWEAT: Since sweat is a physical general symptom it can be applied in any case where the patient has characteristic nature or pattern of sweat

COMPOUND FEVERS: This section has rubrics related to compound fever where the stages of fever i.e., chill, heat, and sweat are interchanged.
